I certainly wouldn't argue the point, I am fully aware that there are far better performance "bang for the buck" solutions. Like I said before, the PO had the engine done and he is the one who spent the big bucks. It was built by an by an old school Porsche mechanic in Victoria, so I would imagine that he had a bit to do with the convincing on which way to go.
If I had been pumping that kind of cash into the engine bay I would have looked at a 1.8T swap before anything (I would think). All in all I can't complain, there may be faster solutions, but this thing is such a raw, animal engine to drive....It's a helluva lot of fun.

PS: as far as power gains go, it's actually fairly substantial given the starting point, we are talking pretty much double the ponies it originally was rated for. Not bad, expensive and not really worth the effort, but not bad.

see thats my point not to slam 8v's but you have 4 grand spent on your 8v if I spent that on my 16v I would have over 300 hp at the wheels I will have less money than that into a VR swap

its just a lot of money for not very much gain in power

which is also out of the budget...LOL
Trouble is, there's already almost $4K in this engine, it would be a shame to have this VERY stout bottom end go to waste and it is practically worthless in a straight sale. I'm just glad I'm not the one who originally dumped all the coin into it.
I've heard the 16V head will bolt up to my block with some mods, any idea if the resulting CR make for a viable turbo motor? I'm around 11 to 11.5 right now with the shaved head

Edit: would the EIP gasket make the interface work with the 16V to older block?
So if a guy wants to retrofit a 16V head onto an older 1.8 block, how do you go about it and get the CR back up? I'd go for it given the chance....
(and don't say turbo, it's beyond the budget for now.)

A 16V head is much better then any 8v head. It doesn't matter what you do to a 8v head, you can't get the same valve flow as a stock 16v head. It doesn't matter how large your intake/exhaust ports are if you don't have the valve area to support it. Put a turbo on a 16V or nitrous and watch what it's capable of. The 16v's have huge power potential, and the 20V are obviously better yet. The 16V's can magically enough make "almost" twice the hp the 8v's can of similar displacement.

Speedtek made a point! and that was an engine with modifications will be faster than a stock engine! A counterflow 8v with ported and polished head, cams, adjustable cam gear, raised compression, larger throttle body, etc. will NEVER touch a 16v with similar mods! Sorry but that is just the way it is! and there really is no arguement against this!!! and for his friend who said 16vT's are grenades must really have a hate on for them. I beg to differ, as do many people with big hp making 16vTs. 16V turbos are as bullet proof as 8valve turbos! but they make better power! they have the same principles, boost plus proper fueling makes power. Killa (operator of boostfactory) has made some 400 plus hp runs on a stock ABA bottom end with a slightly modded 16v head. you couldnt do that with the same block and a counterflow head! or even a crossflow valve head! mY 2 CENTS but hey what do I know I have only built 8 valves, 8 valve turbos and 16 valve turbos so I may not be the one to listen to!
'Miah's last runs of the year he was hitting low 14's, but he is severely limited by traction ATM. He's running stretched 195/45-15's on his 8" wide wheels and it's just too much power for too little tire. Cody and I have both been bugging him to go to a 205 (minimum), so hopefully he will next season. He should be running low-mid 13's easy, with better traction.

I will waste a stock one though. I raced Jeremiah 2 years ago before he did the R32 swap (he was a 16V then) and I smoked him off the line and down the road and that was with my heavy 17" wheel/tire combo and a bad clutch. It's way faster now than it was. We did a run this spring (me still with 17's at the time, but with a new clutch) and I could hang with that beast through first and second. That was when he was still in limp mode, though...that thing is a monster now that it can rev out.

Just giving ya a rough time. I would like to see what Jeremiah would do at the track, now that he has his running concerns under control.
