Does anyone have info yet on the gcvw show this summer?

Gotta start planning the mutiple days off needed for the multiple shows this season, and you can never start too early!

(I hope its the same location as 2011. I thought it was convenient having debit machines near by this time lol)

This was posted on the airspeedparts forum regarding the GCVWS weekend date:

"The 24th is the date we're shooting for and at the moment it's a go! We're just waiting to hear back from the events center to 100% sure we have the location."

EOS is booked at the end of august every year. "End of Summer.....". The boys in Vancouver have always known this. Not sure whats going on with that. Maybe their venue changed ......could be a bunch of factors. I know that Churchill square cannot be re-booked here.

The venue last year was triple booked (for the Van show). Maybe that's why the date changed. It was odd sharing the lot with bible bikers and bad Cher impersonators (the multicultural festival going on at the same place provided good food, at least).

What about moving the venue back to the Aviation Museum? That wasn't a bad venue at all.

The All British car show does it in Victoria Park, which is a nice venue.

Personally, I'll be at EOS wherever it's held because I can't be bothered to drive to Vancouver. geek

The square is a beautiful spot for the show, but a lot of people do not want to go there because of the bums/weirdos that have done damage and caused problems.

I definitely don't feel as comfortable there. The toys r us lot was nice and I know the avaition venue was expensive.

Just my 2cents

I know everyone puts a lot of effort into these shows, and its not real easy to just switch things around.

Agreed, I like Churchill Square, but even with all the people around, I'm uncomfortable leaving the car for any length of time.

Switching venues is probably not an easy task, especially this close to summer.

Smile

More importantly right now, do we have a date for the season opener show?

We suggested a new venue after the show in 2010... I don't like Churchill Square.

I already booked time off in August for GCVW, so I am sure Dean and I will head down to Vancouver again this year.

Hey all,

It will be very unfortunate if Vancouver decides to host their event on the same weekend as EOS. As Gord stated, we always have our event at the END OF SUMMER, so I will be looking into this issue further.

Shaina, yes, we have considered other venues and to date, none of them fulfill our needs (or budget) the way Churchill Square does. This is a regular topic of discussion at executive meetings and is always open for debate at monthly meetings.

The executive is always open to new ideas and suggestions - as president of the club, my biggest frustration at the moment is that the membership does not represent itself adequately at regular monthly meetings and at our annual general meeting to voice their concerns and bring solutions to issues that we have. We always open the floor to those in attendance and hope that people come prepared to discuss club matters. This is not to say that people never bring up issues and offer suggestions, however, we cannot always go by the 'squeaky wheel gets the grease' method of decision making. We try to go by what the majority of the membership wants, and in the case of EOS, the majority of the membership has not asked us to change the venue. If you are one of those members who does not like Churchill Square as a venue, please speak up! The more feedback we have, the better we are able make decisions for the future.

As has been stated above, we book our EOS event a year in advance. We cannot change the location or date for 2012, nor do I feel we should. That being said, if we (club and/or executive) can find a better venue for 2013 (preferably before September, 2012), we are, of course, willing to switch locations.

I cannot stress it enough that the success of this club relies upon the participation of it's membership. We, the executive are here to serve you, the paying members of this club. We try to plan, organize and execute meetings and activities that we hope best suit the interests and needs of the entire membership. We encourage all members to become involved, not only in attending events, but planning as well. I know that we will not always please everyone, we have a very diverse membership, however, it is our aim to be as inclusive as possible in all club related matters.

I am more than willing to dedicate a monthly meeting to discussing an alternative EOS location for 2013. It will be up to you as individuals to come out and be involved in the discussion. If you are not physically able to join us, then please contact an executive member directly with your concerns and/or ideas.

iamsuperdan, to answer your question: the Season Opener will be the weekend after Bug Thaw - we are working in conjunction with Norden for this event and will have more details available soon.

So, from what I gather EOS moved up 5 days this year, and GCVW moved back 4....

Its hard to compete with a 3 day event like GCVW, that attracts multiple cdn and US clubs. Unfortunate for sure.

Guess Ill have to see who's all going down to GCVW this year to decide. Ugh lol

2011: EOS was held August 19th-20th and GCVWS was August 26th-28th.

GCVWS was traditionally held on the weekend of the 15th of August for many, many years (same weekend as the PoCo Hot Rod Show). This sometimes depended on whether Mission Raceway was holding the street legals on that Friday, as this was always an important part of the weekend.

2010: GCVWS was held August 6th-8th, in order to hold street legal VW racing and EOS was held Aug. 26-28 (the traditional last weekend of August).

Time to bump it back...

I don't know who contacted the hotels last year, but could we get an official GCVW thread going? I'm sure alot of people are wondering who's all going, pricing, etc.
